Copied over from the old blog:
I was surfing trademarks, and found some other Blue Circles that I found interesting. By the way, if you’re a geek like me, it’s fun to search TESS for some obscure dead trademarks and see if you can track them down. I’m re-reading that sentence, and I realize I need a life.
Apparently, there was (or is) a Blue Circle Burgers that originally started in Knoxville, TN back in 1931. I found a mug for auction at eBay. According to the article, it sounds like they make something similar to a Krystal burger. Hmm, since I’m a Nashville boy, I wonder if somehow I was subliminally influenced…
It appears that they were sold to a company called Wometco, based in Miami. Wometco seems to have also been involved in a cable movie channel in NYC that was a competitor to HBO. It’s a bit hard to trace Wometco; it’s a conglomerate that’s been bought and sold many times. The only trademark I can find for it is here which is how I came to find the burger stand above.
Brunswick Corporation of Illinois apparently used to have a mark for a Blue Circle cueball, but apparently they aren’t using that name anymore. If you look at their sets of pocket balls, though, you can still see the blue circle on the cue.
There is more to come, but I must sleep now.
